Photo of Jamie and his guide David running up Ben Lomond in June 1989

This was one of Jamie's madder challenges. Walking up Ben Lomond is bad enough but trying to run up it as a totally blind person must be verging on insanity! Jamie is pictured here, looking very tired, running with his friend from university, David Glancy, as they ascend the Ben. In the background you can make out part of Loch Lomond well below the runners. The event was organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind (now Sight Savers) as a fund raising and awareness event. The event took place on 16 June 1989. David was one of a team of around 5 guide runners who helped Jamie to make it from Rowardennan to the top and back in the very respectable time of around 2 hours and 20 minutes!
